Testissä arvioidaan, miten pennut sopeutuvat uuteen tilanteeseen ja
kohtaavat vieraan ihmisen. Testin avulla voidaan arvioida mm. millaiset
asiat tai millainen toiminta on koiralle palkitsevaa.

Pennut olivat testitilanteessa ihmisystävällisiä ja olivat useammin
kiinnostuneita uudesta ihmisestä kuin uudesta paikasta. Kaikki pennut
mukautuivat helposti ihmisen muuttuvaan toimintaan eri testiosioiden
välillä. Esimerkiksi saalistamisleikin jälkeen syliin rauhoittuminen
onnistui kaikilta pennuilta erinomaisesti. Tämä viittaa siihen, että
pennuilla oli jo paljon myönteisiä kokemuksia erilaisista
käsittelytilanteista. Pennut pystyivät aktiivisuudestaan huolimatta
keskittymään vieraan ihmisen kanssa harjoitteluun. Suurin osa toisesta
testikierroksesta sujui lähes ensimmäisen tavoin eli tärkeintä uuden
oppimista tapahtui yllättävien äänten sekä vieraan kanssa
leikkimisen kohdalla.

Kaikkien pentujen koulutettavuus vaikutti testitilanteessa hyvältä.
Koko pentuetta ajatellen niin ihmisen kanssa liikkuminen ja leikkiminen
lelujen kanssa ja ilman kuin ruokapalkkiot vahvistivat pentujen
oma-aloitteista kontaktin ottamista ihmiseen nopeasti. Kun
oma-aloitteisen kontaktin nopea vahvistuminen tapahtui vieraassa tilassa
vieraan ihmisen kanssa, voidaan olettaa, että pentujen kykyyn
yleistää aiemmin opittuja taitoja ja kokemuksia uusiin tilanteisiin on
kiinnitetty pentuaikana huomiota. Myös pentujen sosiaalistamiseen
liittyvissä tutkimuksissa on pidetty olennaisena, että monipuoliset
varhaiset kokemukset vähentävät pelkoja uusia tilanteita ja vieraita
ihmisiä kohtaan sekä parantavat pennun oppimiskykyä. Suosittelen
ylläpitämään tätä lähtökohtaa pentujen kahden ensimmäisen
vuoden ajan mahdollisimman monipuolisella taitojen harjoittelulla.

Testin perusteella pennuilla näyttää olevan erinomaiset edellytykset
monipuoliseen arkeen ja harrastavaan elämään. Toivon kaikille
terveyttä ja paljon vauhdikkaita vuosia!

Kennel O’zone X-litter, age 52 days (born 24.6.2020)

The goal of this puppy test is to assess how puppies habituate to a new,
strange situation and how they meet a strange person in that situation.
This test can also assess what kind of stimuli or activities are
rewarding for individuals.

All puppies were friendly towards a new person. They were more often
interested in interacting with a new person than in exploring the test
area around them. All puppies adapted quickly to constantly changing
behavior of a human tester and different parts of the puppy test were
easily conducted. For example, after chasing a toy, puppies were aroused
and still easy and safe to handle. I interpreted that puppies have had a
lot of positive experiences about different handling situations. Despite
their high activity their accuracy while practicing with a new person
was really good. The second test round went along almost like the first
one. Probably the most important learning occurred with surprising
sounds and playing chase and tug with a new person.
Trainability on puppies seemed good based on my impressions of test
situations. Moving around with a new person, playing with a new person
with and without toys, and having food rewards all reinforced voluntary
contact towards human quite quickly. When this happens in a strange
place with a strange person, you can assume that puppies’ ability to
generalize their previous experiences and skills to new situations has
been breeder’s interest all along. Studies on puppy socialization have
shown that versatile early experiences reduce dogs’ fear and anxiety
towards new situations and strange persons, and improve their learning
skills. I encourage to maintain this baseline at least for two first
years with versatile skills training.

Based on this test these puppies seem to have outstanding preconditions
to live a full and active social life in human environments.
