Testissä arvioidaan, miten pennut sopeutuvat uuteen tilanteeseen ja kohtaavat vieraan ihmisen. Testin avulla voidaan arvioida mm. millaiset asiat tai millainen toiminta on koiralle palkitsevaa.

Testi toteutettiin pennuille virikkeellisessä tilassa ja niillä oli mahdollisuus valita lähikontakti testaajan kanssa. Pennut olivat kiinnostuneita vuorovaikutuksesta testaajan kanssa niin muista virikkeistä riippumatta kuin niiden ansiosta.

Testikierrosten myötä vuorovaikutus testaajan kanssa lisääntyi ja kiinnostus ympäristöä kohtaan väheni. Voidaan tulkita, että huomion saaminen ja toiminta ihmisen kanssa oli pennuille ensisijaisesti palkitsevaa. Se on myös onnistuneen kasvatustyön tärkeä tunnusmerkki ison pentueen kohdalla.

Kaikki pennut olivat kiinnostuneita vieraasta ihmisestä ja ystävällisiä tätä kohtaan. Pentujen käsitteleminen oli sujuvaa ja niillä oli tunnistettavasti paljon myönteisiä kokemuksista ihmiskäsistä.

Pennut eivät pelänneet yllättäviä tai voimakkaita ääniä tai herkistyneet niihin. Ne olivat välittömästi kiinnostuneita uusista esineistä myös äänten testaamisen jälkeen ja kiinnostuivat esineiden manipuloimisesta. Tällaisia ominaisuuksia on syytä vahvistaa läpi koiran elämän, sillä uteliaisuus ja kyky ratkaista ongelmia helpottavat muuta oppimista.

Testin perusteella uskon pennuilla olevan erinomaiset edellytykset aktiiviseen arkeen ja harrastamiseen. Toivon kaikille terveyttä ja paljon vauhdikkaita vuosia!

Kennel O’zone, Y-litter, age 45 days (born 10.10.2021)

The goal of this puppy test is to assess how puppies habituate to a new, strange situation and how they meet a strange person in that situation. This test can also assess what kind of stimuli or activities are rewarding for individuals.

Test was conducted in an enriched environment. During test situations, puppies were given a choice to socialize with stranger or completely avoid contact with him. Due to and apart from enrichments, all puppies were interested in socializing and interacting with the stranger. All puppies had a friendly attitude towards the stranger. They were also easy to handle, which distinctly shows that they have a lot of good experiences with handling.

Puppies’ interaction with the stranger increased and interests towards environment decreased along test rounds. We can interpret that getting attention from human and interacting with him was primarily rewarding for all puppies. It’s also an important feature of successful breeding work with big litters.

Puppies were not scared of sudden or loud noises and threshold to startle didn’t become lower during test situations. They were immediately interested in new objects after the sound test and engaged in manipulating the objects too. These behaviours should be strengthened and encouraged through a dog’s life, since curiosity towards novel things and ability to solve problems facilitate all learning.

Based on this test, Y-litter puppies have outstanding starting points to live a full and active social life in human environments.
